As per a study conducted by the Andhra University and the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, the groundwater in many villages that fall under the capital region of Andhra Pradesh is highly polluted and is undrinkable.

As per the study, pollution indicators are beyond the prescribed limits in the groundwater in the capital city, that will come up on the bank of River Krishna and it is likely to face drinking water scarcity.

According to the study, the indiscriminate use of fertilizers for decades caused those chemicals leaching into and contaminating groundwater.
